It’s Always Something

Well, that turned out to be somewhat less than optimal. I can’t backup the barscape.net forum because my old web hosting provider doesn’t host the database locally. It hosts it on another server. The database is large enough such that the database connection times out mid-backup and the PHP code isn’t robust enough to try a re-connect and resume on the off, but possible, chance that the remote location has some kind of connection limit policy.

Which means that I have to write some custom code. It’s not a huge deal, but I’m too tired to do it tonight. I’d do it from work, but the IT department there has decided to disable POP3 access to external mail servers, off-site FTP uploads and off-site SSH connections. It’s a safe, but rather draconian policy. Perhaps I should stop thinking about work while I’m at home.
