This post will be a disjointed rambling mess because I haven’t been sleeping well. Last night’s dream was weird. I’ll leave it at that.
Some asshole has been spamming my site with nasty porn trackback comments. Investigating this, I discoved another security hole on my site, which I then closed up. The damage has been done, however. The attacks are still coming in, however, somehow. I disabled e-mail notifications simply to avoid the added Internet bandwidth of each of these useless posts spawning an e-mail. As I don’t allow commenting on this site, cleaning up the dross is simple enough. I will eventually add a cron job to automate the process. I wish WordPress was more hardened than that, though. It’s just added incentive to roll my own software.
Fighting the town’s special education system has taken up quite a bit of time, too. I won’t go into detail here because I’d rather work with these people instead of against them. However…. never mind.
The family went out on our first hike of the season, heading out to our favorite destination, Wendell Brook State Forest in Ashby, MA. There was still quite a bit of snow on the ground; the area is very hilly and sheltered. This time we hiked up an access road in the back and found some campsites.
My vacation got cut short due to work priorities, so I didn’t get to finish the SpedPAC site work. I’m going to try to do that this week.
I did write some quick-n-dirty photo gallery PHP code to display some pics from my solo hike up Carter Dome last fall. One of those pics is my background for my MySpace profile. It was a nice coding exercise. I think it took me about an hour to get the basic code working and about half an hour to tune it. The good part is that the code is reusable for any other galleries I want to support in the future.
DS 4 is still on hold, pending the SpedPAC work. I did find another on-line dice roller. A gaming group that I was affiliated with is using it in place of the defunct DS 3. I checked it out. Not bad. If I wasn’t going to develop a more in-depth gaming site, I wouldn’t bother with DS 4.
The other dice roller is at Hamete if you so desire a look.
I restarted my 1870 Redux wargaming scenario after messing up quite a few rules. TGW is unforgiving as was WWI. I will post scenario details as I progress. Two immediate changes to the scenario were that Germany took over Luxembourg, historically they weren’t going to run the risk of French possession of fortified Luxembourg City, and that Italy DoW’d France on a d6 roll, maintaining the Central Powers alliance. GB in response, w/o a formal casus belli over Belgium, but leaning toward the Entente b/c of the Italian declaration, failed their d6 roll and remained out of the fight. That leaves the French Navy against the Germans in the north and against the Italians and Austrians in the Med. That and a commitment to Plan XVII will leave the French in trouble.
