TSEPAC Update
I’m using Ruby on Rails to develop the Tewksbury SpedPAC web site and I have to reiterate that I love the Ruby language and the Rails framework. As a C/C++ guy who is used to typed languages an running various configuration scripts, having everything “just work” is impressive and a little scary.
I usually hate application frameworks. I usually don’t like how they’re designed and I wind up rolling my own. This framework is a joy to use, however, even if the idea of enforced naming conventions chafes me a bit. Still, it’s a minor annoyance considering the power.
As far as using Ruby on Rails for my other projects, I’m definitely going to use it for Effluency 2.0, but I’m not going to use it for Dice Server 4.0. In spite of its power, it’s a little heavy for a simple dice service. For a full-fledged forum site with context-based user interactions, it will prove invaluable. For rolling dice, it’s really not necessary.
I should be finished with this round of TSEPAC development this week. After that, I’ll be back working on DS 4.
