Sometimes, I Just Rock
As you can see, I’m in a grand mood at the moment. While the built-in phpBB admin database dump failed to work on the Barscape database, the phpmysql script provided by the old web hosting provider did the trick. 49MB of data was extracted to my laptop, which I then FTP’d up to the new server.
The next problem was loading the data into the new database. However, one Perl script and an hour later and all the data was shoved in. The Dreamhost control panel still only shows 8Kb of data in the barscape database, but I think that that’s just an old snapshot. I used the mysql program to manually query the tables and the data is in there.
With that step finished, I changed the domain’s DNS settings to point to the new server. This should take about a day or two to propagate around the Internet.
The final step was the addition of a message to the main page of the Barscape forum code on the new server. Now, if I see that message after going to barscape.net, then I’ll know that the DNS settings have changed.

Update: the Barscape forum has migrated successfully.
